The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities at University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in the area of Post-Secondary Writing Instruction to commence on August 01, 2018 (or as determined). The successful candidate will possess a PhD in a field relevant to pedagogy, English, literature, professional communications, or Higher Education. Extensive experience teaching writing skills to undergraduate students at the post-secondary level is essential, and experience working with graduate or mature students would be beneficial. Experience in the design and successful implementation of complex pedagogical programmes at the post-secondary level is considered an asset. As a technology-enhanced learning environment UOIT seeks faculty members who strive to explore and develop new pedagogies by integrating technology in the curriculum.
Excellent communications skills combined with a proven ability to collaborate effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff and community partners are essential. Duties will include preparing and delivering courses devoted to improving writing skills for first year students in a variety of social science disciplines; developing diagnostics for measuring writing skills; contributing to the development of writing-intensive upper-year courses; and other duties as determined by the Dean.
The successful candidate will be expected to follow an 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% other workload each year.
